Dump
Biography One kind of wishes James McNew didn't have to work his day-job because there'd be more Dump for us all. But when that day-job happens to be Bass Guitarist for Yo La Tengo, what are we gonna say?! Let's just be thankful Jim has been giving us what he has, whether on Shrimper, Brinkman, or in the case of the startling six-track pop sonata International Airport, our very own Smells Like Records imprint. Steeped, soaked and sauna'd in the very best of 20th c. tunesmithery, from Tin Pan Alley to Pretty Things to Prince, Dump has become a bona fide factory of three-and-a-half-minute joy-engines, of melodies that yearn and stick, arrangements that betray brilliance and one of the great soft-boy voices we know.
