Blonde Redhead Biography In the late 80s, identical twins Simone and Amadeo Pace traveled from their native Italy to Boston, to study at the (in)famous Berklee School of music. Subsequently disillusioned by the music school mentality, and newly enamored of the emtional directness of rock and roll, the pair hastily relocated to New York City upon graduation. There they hooked up with avant-chanteuse Kazu Makino, who had been playing downtown NYC venues with Marc Ribot and Arto Lindsay among others, but was also looking for still more primal means of expression. The threesome recruited Tada Hirano to play bass, borrowed a song title from Arto's old band DNA to christen their new group, and picked up some pivotal gigs, which included an opening slot on Sonic Youth's Italian tour. Steve's excitement about the band resulted in the"Jet Star" b/w "Vague" single, released by SLR in 1993. Despite some problems keeping the bass chair occupied (they now perform as a bass-less trio), the band managed to grow significantly over the course of two full-length albums and a second single for SLR. Their heavy touring schedule and scalding live shows have garnered them a near-fanatic and ever-growing following. In 1996 the band moved on to record for Chicago's venerable Touch and Go label.
